Going out to eat is one of America's favorite pastimes. That's evidenced by the billions of dollars we spend each year doing so. While it may be fun eating out, it can also be very fattening if you're not careful. Here are 5 simple tips to keep in mind when eating at restaurants and trying to lose weight.

1. Just Say No To Appetizers

When asked if you would like an appetizer, just say no. The same for the pre-meal loaf of bread or rolls. At the very least, take home the appetizer for later. Just don't eat them before your meal.

2. Watch The Dinner Salad

Dinner salads are great if you watch what is on them. Lettuce, tomatoes, carrots or other vegetables are fine. But, leave off the bacon bits or croutons. Stick to an Italian dressing or an oil and vinegar based dressing. Forget about the thick creamy ranch or thousand island.

3. Watch The Sides

Many dishes you order come with some kind of rice or pasta. Avoid this if at all possible. Substitute the rice for a side of fresh vegetables or the seasoned veggies. Filling up on rice or pasta will only contribute to filling out your waistline.

4. No Fried Or Breaded Foods

A deep-fat fried chicken steak may taste good, but it also puts on the pounds. This even applies to a fish dinner. Instead, order the broiled fish or even the shrimp, etc that is not breaded.

5. Pass On The Desert

Desert may be tempting, but again, just say no. Stuffing yourself after a meal with the chocolate brownie delight is doing nothing for your diet and weight loss goals. It only goes straight to your waistline.

These 5 simple tips can greatly help you with any weight loss plan you are on. Even if you are not on a diet they can help you keep your weight in check if you eat out a lot.

Diabetes testing for Acomplia label

Sanofi-Aventis said the European Commission has endorsed a positive opinion from the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA) for its Acomplia drug to carry type 2 diabetes trial results on its European label instructions.

In September, Sanofi announced it aims to submit Acomplia, generic name rimonabant, for worldwide approval in 2009 as a treatment for type 2 diabetes.

The results are based on the 'Serenade' trial, which compared 20 mg once daily to placebo in improving blood sugar control in type 2 diabetic patients new to treatment and whose weight was not adequately controlled by diet alone for a period of six months.

It said in the trial that rimonabant 20mg significantly improved glycemic control, achieving the treatment target recommended by the American Diabetes Association of an HbA1c-value for blood sugar of below 7 pct.

Rimonabant has already been approved by the EU with an indication for treating obesity, and is now on sale in a number of European countries.

But in the US, the company expects a four-year delay before gaining approval for the drug for which it withdrew its new drug application after trials revealed possible risks for patients suffering from depression.

In the Serenade trial, Sanofi said 2.2 pct of patients ceased treatment due to depressed mood disorder, compared to none for the placebo.

It said the Serenade study also demonstrated that rimonabant 20mg has additional benefits on cardio-metabolic risk factors beyond diabetes.

We live in a world where fat-loss gimmicks and so-called diet pills promise to help you lose those unwanted pounds with little effort.  The advertising of these miracle drugs and gimmicks only feed more into the hype.  In reality, the majority of these products will not work without a commitment to a very strict diet and exhausting exercise program.
 
How can you lose weight naturally and effectively?   
 
The first thing that you must do is change your way of thinking.  You must try to recreate your bad thoughts of being overweight and fat, into good thoughts of being healthy and skinny.  Although, you may not be skinny yet, you want to start using the law of attraction to your advantage.  Meaning that by thinking you are skinny, you will attract positive energies back to you which will eventually make you skinny.  The way you think changes the way you act!
 
Here are some ideas for effective weight loss - the natural way.
 
*Desire- The more you put your mind to something, the better your chances are of achieving that goal.
 
*Knowledge-Learn the correct information about proper nutrition and exercise routine.  Our bodies all have a different biological chemistry.  What works for one will not necessarily work for another.
 
*Sacrifices-This one is really hard!  But, the most emotionally satisfying.  If you can give up something you REALLY love, say that candy bar or soda, that will be one of the best feelings in your weight loss venture.
 
*Consistency-It is important to maintain a consistent routine.  This is crucial for your success.
 
*Feedback-At some point, your body will plateau. Which means you will come to a point where you stop losing weight before your goal.  When this happens, it is important to analyze your nutrition and exercise routine and make adjustments.  Be careful!  This point in your weight loss venture is very aggravating, and pushes many people toward purchasing non-effective weight loss drugs. 
 
*Failure-understanding there is no such thing!  You will have slip ups and you WILL have plateaus, but this is NOT failure.  Think of this is a learning experience on your journey to your weight loss goal of what you should NOT do again!!
 
*Never give up-You can do this.  Have faith in your abilities.  Do not waste your money on those magical diet pills.  When you reach that goal, you will have the self-esteem to conquer anything!

A WSJ Article says Sanofi-Aventis' (SNY) Acomplia Weight-Loss Drug Increase Rate of Suicidality

A WSJ article says the FDA has reported Acomplia, Sanofi-Aventis' proposed weight-loss drug, was effective in promoting weight loss, but increased the rate of suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
